Do You Suffer From Frequent UTIs?
Like most women, we all have to deal with this issue at least once in our lifetime. It’s like a rite of passage that when we start becoming sexually active, forget the rules, or let our diets get unhealthy, we are doomed to the dreaded UTI. Not to say men don’t get them as well, just not as often or for the same reasons.
Women get them easier because our urethra is closer to our anus. This is why you always have to wipe front to back.
Here are some of the symptoms of a UTI in case you have been lucky to never have gotten one in the first place.
– burning sensation when almost finished with urination
– lower back pain
– funky odor
– fever and/or chills
Now, most women would rush off to the doctor if this was happening to them. I have had them so frequently in my lifetime that I have learned a few things along the way to keep them from coming back. Most of us would rather go to the doctor as little as possible right? You don’t want to keep taking antibiotics and therefore become resistant to them. Here are a few things you can do instead:
– Drink more water
– Take a high dose cranberry supplement daily
– ALWAYS wipe from front to back (women)
– Pee after sex and wash before
– Wear cotton underwear
– Don’t wear tight clothes ALL the time
There are prophylactic antibiotics that can be taken for a couple of days each time you get an infection, but that would require a trip to the doctor and I’m all about not having to go spend that money if I can help it. One thing you may or may not know about me is that I believe in the power of nature and I use essential oils in my lifestyle. When I get a UTI (rarely these days) I start doing a little ritual I developed and so far, it has served me well. If I happen to get a UTI, these are some of the things I do.
I believe that lemongrass has many benefits and so does peppermint. I take these and other essential oils internally as well as topically or inhaled directly from the bottle. Oregano is as strong as any antibiotic and I will swallow a drop of that mixed in with some warm chicken broth. If I take the steps above, along with the ones I just told you about, I keep the doctor and the UTIs away – most of the time. There are many other benefits to essential oils as well as many more essential oils to choose from. My normal go to oils are lemon and frankincense, however, I will try these others when afflicted by a UTI.
Another culprit that seeks to destroy our lives, especially the vaginal region is sugar. Sugar is the devil, and every time I am seduced by it again, I experience these problems. We have to keep sugar to a bare minimum and that doesn’t only mean sweets. No alcohol, breads, candy, pasta, chips, fruit and soda. Bacteria love sugar and feed on it, so it’s best to starve them by not eating it in the first place.
Prevention is the best defense against UTIs. Take the steps I’ve outlined here and you will likely never have another!
