It’s the perfect time of year to have one, and if you’re lucky enough to have a conservatory, now is the time to make the most of it. One of the best things about having a conservatory, is even if there’s still a nip in the air, as long as the sun is out, your room will be nicely heated through. Like so many people who have a conservatory, chances are you may have neglected it over the winter months – because honestly, who needs those extra heating bills! So how can you make sure your conservatory is ready for regular use throughout the summer?

Deep Clean

After the busy Christmas season and the rainy winter months, there’s a fair chance that you’ve used your conservatory for storage – so you’ll want to get rid of any of that before you do anything. It’s also a good idea to take all of the furniture out, so that you can deep clean thoroughly. Completely clearing the room first will allow you to ensure that your conservatory is cleaned literally from top to bottom – and that no dust is left in the corners. Over the winter, when you’ve accumulated all of those extra things and stored them in your conservatory, there’s bound to have been a fair amount of dust gathered around them. The summer is renowned for allergy levels being high, and if you have a sufferer in the house the last thing that you’ll want is in-house dust making them worse.

Another positive to deep cleaning your conservatory in order to get the best out of it, is how much it will impress other people – and this can help you out in the long run. For example, if you end up looking to sell your home quickly with a company such as it’ll save you a lot of time and effort in getting your conservatory ready for the sale of your home. Having a conservatory is a massive attraction to homebuyers anyway, and if you clean it immaculately you probably won’t have to refurbish or redecorate any of it in order to sell it on successfully. The summer months are statistically the best time to sell your home on successfully too, so making your conservatory a feature is bound to help it along. It’s a win-win.

Dress Your Windows Appropriately

Although letting the light into your conservatory is recipe for a beautiful and well-warmed room, you’ll want to make sure that it’s actually comfortable to sit in. When the sun is burning down, if you don’t shade your windows, your conservatory will inevitably become far too hot to sit in comfortably – and isn’t that exactly what you want? Curtains can look slightly untidy in a conservatory, so you could look at investing in some blinds that are specifically made to fit your conservatory windows. This gives you the option to let in as much light as you want, or to shade your conservatory.

Bring the Outside in

One of the main points of actually having a conservatory is that it brings you closer to the natural world, without you having to actually venture out into it. People who struggle in the direct sunlight are much better off relaxing in a shaded conservatory with the door open to let a breeze in than they are suffering in the garden, and it’s just as relaxing and summery. But how can we make it feel even more tropical? Infuse nature into your conservatory by investing in some plants that thrive off being indoors, in direct sunlight. Some perfect examples of this are cacti and succulents. Not only do these plants more often than not have air purifying qualities, but they can really freshen up a room and give it a more tropical feel. Even if you can’t sit in the garden because of having sensitive skin or possible allergies, at least in the conservatory you feel as if you can!

Think About Furniture

Last but possibly most important of all, consider what furniture you’re going to use in your conservatory very carefully. Most people want to create a tranquil and relaxing space in which they can lounge with a glass of wine, or lounge back and read a book in – and wooden chairs and a table aren’t going to give you that, are they? When choosing your furniture, above all else, think comfort. Fill your sofas with light and soft throws and cushions so that you feel like you’re in the lap of luxury at all times. You might not be able to afford a tropical holiday this summer, but it doesn’t mean you can’t feel as though you are on one!
