Eventually, most people who are using alcohol or drugs will come to a point when they consider getting clean. If this is you, ask yourself why. If you’re not sure, some of the following reasons might not apply, but they top the list for quite a few people. In fact, one of them might just be the spark that ignites your desire to get clean.

An End to the Pain

The first step is to admit you have a problem, the second step is to seek help. Start by researching the best drug rehab centers, both locally and nationally. While you have a clear head, it’s best to check yourself in within the same day or have a family member check you in within the same week before a relapse.

A Desire for Change

You might look back on your life and who you’ve become and find that it’s not a nice picture. Most people in recovery find that they’ve let people down and themselves too. You might even get to the point where you can’t stand to look in the mirror because of all of the bad things you’ve done due to the substance abuse. Nobody will force you to change but you. It won’t be easy, but it’s definitely worth it in the end.

Be the Parent Your Kids Need

In the fog of your substance abuse, you might not be able to see that your kids are suffering. That doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re physically abusing them, but you might yell or scream at them and even call them atrocious names. You might forget to make sure they have clean clothes, wake them up for school, compliment their successes, and even miss school events. You might not even know what’s going on in their lives. You might not even care. Wanting to be there and be a good parent for your kids might be the impetus you need to finally get your life together and get clean. Kids shouldn’t have to suffer and be the parent when they have a parent right there.

Be the Spouse Your Partner Needs

Your partner may have been putting up with you and your habits for years. How and why do they do it? You might steal money from them to finance your habit. You might act insane in front of their friends or business associates. You might just make their life in general one that’s miserable. Nobody deserves that. Especially those people in our lives who love us and take care of us. Take a step back to see just what your partner does for you and what you do for them in return. It might just give you a reason to turn things around.

Getting clean might just be one of the hardest things you’ll ever do, but once you’re clean and sober, you’ll also come to find that it’s one of the best things you’ll ever do as well.
